I can't post the years after this.... since, by a freak of nature, or rather this computer, I lost the subsequent playlists when I was copying and pasting. I hate myself right now, but in a few weeks I'll probably find a way to compile them all over again.

I can't remember a time, even when I was a child, when I wasn't in love with music. I loved playing instruments, singing, and listening to different types of it -- the good, the bad, the ugly. I loved it all. Of all these songs I've heard, or played through my lifetime the ones that stand out as being most vivid are those associated with certain memories of people/events. I decided one week I'd try to piece together playlists of what I used to listen to... The week turned into a few weeks, and has finally come to fruition (It's sad what I do with my free time, huh?). Every song here, has at least one story and is pretty characteristic of the phases I went/am going through.
If anyone else reads this, I'd really love to see what you throw together for your own playlist. I had to split this up into a few posts because it was too massive...
The Playlist for the first 11 years of my life, in no particular order (note: most of these were before the era of music videos, so excuse the ones YouTube has attached to them):
- Ventura Highway by America
- Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton
- The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston
- Kahit Habang Buhay by Smokey Mountain
- Kailan by Geneva Cruz
- Hindi Kita Malilimutan by Basil Valdez
- Something Stupid by Frank & Nancy Sinatra
- Longest Time by Billy Joel
- Bennie and the Jets by Elton John
- Mirroirs (Five Pieces for Piano) by Maurice Ravel [note: No. 4]
- Hotel California by The Eagles
- Tiny Dancer by Elton John
- How Deep Is Your Love by The Bee Gees
- Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da by The Beatles
- Wouldn't It Be Nice? by the Beach Boys
- Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
- Thriller by Michael Jackson
- Make It With You by Bread
- Tonight, Tonight, Tonight by Genesis
- You Can Cal Me Al by Paul Simon
- Shout by Tears for Fears
GAH!
I've been wanting to go to this Kanye West concert on May 10th, here in Washington D.C. but I'm scheduled to show up to work and have thus been off the idea... That is, until I found out that on the day I arrive in Tokyo, there'll be a concert featuring Kanye West.
Springroove 2008 is featuring a concert with some of the hottest names in R&B/Hip-hop... one of them, my beloved Kanye West. Kanye's not playing until 8pm, but I arrive at the airpot at 3pm with a two-hour train ride to central Tokyo... That's not even taking into account the time I need to pick up my cell phone and JR Pass at the airport... not to mention the shower I'll have to take after my grody 13 hour flight from D.C..
Oh well! We shall meet some other time in the future Kanye!
There are some songs you can sing to, some you can dance to, and some that remind you of that crappy breakup you had in the eighties. I like all of them. "Good, bad, happy or sad" there's value in every piece of music -- and while I may not like it, I'm sure there's someone else out there that does.
I found out about Naomi-san's blog while browsing through another one of my neighbor's blogs. I absolutely love this girl's taste in music! If you love R&B or J-Rock you should definitely check her out. (PS: It's in Japanese though!)
This song is the bane of Lauren and I's existence. We've been trying to play it in cooperative mode on hard, but it's just so Goddamn difficult that we can't get past 90%. This is our record high on this song unfortunately... at least until we play tomorrow night, haha. Gotta love the roommate bonding.
I... don't like a lot of pop music -- I really don't. It mostly stems from my belief that good music is made by instruments (perhaps that's part of the residual band geek in me) and not synthesizers.
That being said, I really appreciate this album that Timbaland did. It's a compilation of different collaborations he did with different pop artists -- everyone from bubble gum punks like Fall Out Boy down to Elton John. It's strange that it came together alright, and that it was something I actually didn't mind listening to. If you like pop music, you'll definitely dig this album, and even if you don't you'll still have an appreciation for this man making all the different 'sounds' work for this album.
Strange, yet good.
Someday you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light
Or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
And illuminate the "no"s
On their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
In catholic school
As vicious as roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised
By a lady in black
And I held my tongue
As she told me "Son,
Fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
And illuminate the "no"s
On their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
You and me
Have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes
Are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
But it's nothing to cry about
'Cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
And illuminate the "no"s
On their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark
